Benefits of travelling alone- Part 2

Make new friends

Some people may think that travelling alone means you’ll feel lonely, but once you’re feeling confident and empowered, you may find it’s easier to make new friends while on holiday. If you’re staying at a countryside spa, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people and being there by yourself means conversations are more likely to spark – hopefully leading to friendships that last beyond your two-week holiday.

Best of all, you’ll have the chance to become friends with yourself again; connecting with your worries, the things that make you happy and enjoying your own company.

Feel liberated

Although it may be daunting, scary, worrying or agonising, taking the decision to travel alone – perhaps for the first time – is liberating. You’ll be free from the anxiety of doing something you don’t want to do, and can instead focus your time and energy into what will be your holiday, exactly the way you want it.

And that’s exactly what a break is for – a break from the everyday small stresses that can build up, and a break to recharge, reconnect with yourself and reconfigure your priorities.

Time to be creative

By going alone you can dedicate time and focus on a creative project you may have been meaning to start for ages. Maybe you want to write a novel? Poetry? Or knit a jumper, you can divide your time as you want to, and finally put energy into a new and exciting venture.

Alternatively, if you have a stack of novels waiting to be devoured, there’s nothing quite like being alone to finally get through those page-turners.

Step out of your comfort zone

Once you’ve decided to do something different, it may feel too out of routine, or too alien a feeling, but by breaking the mould and releasing yourself from familiar patterns, you may be surprised by your resilience, confidence and can-do attitude.
